These handmade steel pan drums have a series of eight "tongues" of varying sizes cut into the top which are struck by hand or mallet to produce a warming sound. Called "Happy Drums" as it is believed the tones produce a calming and uplifting affect.
They come in a variety of colours and designs and are tuned for a balanced sound. This creative instrument is fun to play, either with the included wooden mallets or with your fingers. If you are a professional, you can start playing with your fingers, similar to playing a bongo or tabla. For beginners, it is recommended to start with the mallets. Those who progress in playing can learn to strike multiple notes at a time to play cords. These instruments can be played singly or in a group setting, with or without written music.
The drum comes with a sturdy, lightly padded, portable bag, making it easy to carry wherever you go. The drum is equipped with rubber feet on the bottom to keep it stable when played on a solid surface though it can also be played held on the lap. Sold as an instrument not a toy.
